Swiatek gets past Raducanu to as quarter-final line-up is set in Indian Wells
The world No 1 defeated Emma Raducanu 6-3, 6-1 for her second win over the Brit in as many matches
World No 1 and defending champion Iga Swiatek, of Poland, defeated Emma Raducanu in straight sets to reach the last eight of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells on Tuesday night.
Swiatek needed one hour and 24 minutes to beat the 2021 US Open champion 6-3, 6-1 and score her second win over the young Brit.
Swiatek, who is all set to complete one year on top of the world rankings, will play Romanian Sorana Cirstea next.
Ahead of her win on Tuesday, the 21-year-old Pole won against American Claire Liu (6-0, 6-1) and Canadian Bianca Andreescu, the No 32 seed (6-3, 7-6 (1)).
Raducanu, ranked No 77, beat Montenegrin Danka Kovinic (6-2, 6-3), Pole Magda Linette, the No 20 seed (7-6 (3), 6-2) and Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 13 seed (6-1, 2-6, 6-4) in the previous rounds of the Indian Wells tournament.
