Marseille Open: De Minaur rounds out quarter-final lineup
Alex De Minaur defeated Alexander Ritschard 6-3, 6-3 on Thursday evening and will play Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi in the next round
Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 3 seed, advanced to the last eight of the Open 13 Provence in Marseille by beating Swiss qualifier Alexander Ritschard 6-3, 6-3 at the Palais des sports de Marseille on Thursday evening.
De Minaur, ranked No 23, will face Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi next. The former world No 15 has reached back-to-back quarter-finals at Rotterdam and Marseille, and improves to 7-3 on the season.
De Minaur saved the only break point he faced as he won 25 of 30 first-serve points against Ritschard. He broke serve three times on six opportunities. The Australian jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening set and never looked back. In the second set he converted his third break point of the fifth game to lead 3-2 and added an insurance break in the final game, as he converted his second match point with Ritschard serving.
In the previous round of the Open de Provence, Ritschard, ranked No 187, won against Spaniard Pablo Andujar (7-5, 6-3).
