Mérida Open: McNally advances to last eight

Catherine McNally won against wildcard Katie Volynets 6-3, 6-0 to move into the quarter-finals of the Mérida Open at the Yucatan Country Club on Wednesday night.

McNally, ranked No 92, will play Australian qualifier Kimberly Birrell next.

Catherine McNally beat Chinese Lin Zhu, the No 3 seed (7-6 (3), 6-7 (5), 6-1) ahead of her victory.

In the previous round, Volynets, ranked No 96, won against Italian Lucia Bronzetti (4-6, 6-2, 6-1).
