French wildcard Arthur Fils advanced to the second round of the Marseille Open by winning against Russian Roman Safiullin 6-4, 6-3 at the Palais des sports de Marseille on Wednesday evening.
Fils, ranked No 118, will face second seed Jannik Sinner next.
