Garcia aims even higher in 2023: “I have the ability to win a Grand Slam”
In a lengthy interview with Eurosport, Caroline Garcia talked about her dream of winning her first ever Grand Slam tournament
Caroline Garcia is currently fourth in the WTA world rankings – a position she reached before, back in September 2018.
She owes it to a fantastic second half of 2022, in which she added four titles to her trophy cabinet: Bad Homburg and Warsaw to start with, before two of her most prestigious trophies, the WTA 1000 in Cincinnati and the WTA Finals.
And that’s all without mentioning her run at the US Open, where she reached the semi-finals, her best result ever in a Grand Slam tournament. It’s no surprise that she now has big plans for 2023.
That includes the hope of winning a maiden Grand Slam.
“I am at the top of my abilities,” the Frenchwoman told Eurosport. “With the semi-final at the US Open and this title at the Masters, the dream of winning a Grand Slam becomes more palpable, more concrete, even if the road is still long.
“I still have seven matches to win to get a Grand Slam. I don’t have anything less than before the Masters. I think all this gives me confidence that it’s achievable. It shows that I’m capable of winning a Grand Slam. It’s going to be a ‘challenging’ two weeks in a lot of areas, but I have the style and level of play.
“I’m in a better position today to face bad days. That doesn’t mean I’ll be able to get over the top and beat the opponent on that day. But I have the ability.”
