Tommy Paul backs up victory over Nadal with straight set takedown of Carreno Busta in Paris

American Tommy Paul notched the biggest win of his career on Wednesday in Paris when he defeated 21-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal in three sets. On Thursday he continued his fine form by earning a victory over Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta, the No 14 seed, 6-4, 6-4 to move into the last 8 of Paris Masters at the Accor Arena on Thursday evening.
Paul, ranked No 31, will face Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the No 5 seed, next.
It has been a special year for the 24-year-old American. He has won four matches against the top-10, notched a career-best 39 wins on tour, reached the second week for the first time at a Grand Slam and reached his first two Masters 1000 quarter-finals.
Paul, who hit 24 winners against seven unforced errors on Thursday, converted three of 12 break points to stretch his winning streak against Spanish players to nine matches (third this week).
The American beat Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut (6-4, 6-4) and Spaniard Rafael Nadal, the second seed (3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-1) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds of the Paris Bercy, Carreno Busta, ranked No 14, won against Albert Ramos-Vinolas (6-3, 6-3) and edged out Canadian Denis Shapovalov (7-6 (2), 2-6, 6-4).
