Canadian Rebecca Marino, the No 8 seed, advanced to the quarter-finals of the Abierto Tampico by beating Japanese Moyuka Uchijima 7-6 (4), 6-7 (8), 6-3 at Centro Libanes Mexicano de Tampico on Wednesday evening.
Marino, ranked No 72, will face the winner of the match between Canadian Leylah Fernandez, the No 3 seed, and Chinese Xiaodi You next.
Ahead of her victory, the Canadian won against Russian Varvara Flink (6-3, 7-5).
Uchijima, ranked No 109, won against American Emma Navarro (6-4, 6-4) in the previous round.
