Argentinian Pedro Cachin won against Russian qualifier Alexey Vatutin 7-6 (2), 6-0 to move into the second round of the Gijon Open at the Palacio deportes on Wednesday.
Cachin, ranked No 61, will play wildcard Andy Murray next.
