Gijon Open: Baez retires, Lestienne makes second round

Constant Lestienne benefited from the abandonment of Sebastian Baez (7-6 (5), 4-4) on Monday afternoon and will face the winner of the match between Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech and Spanish lucky loser Carlos Taberner in the next round

Frenchman Constant Lestienne reached the second round of the Gijon Open when Argentinian Sebastian Baez (photo), the No 7 seed, retired on Monday at the Palacio deportes.

Lestienne, ranked No 63, led 7-6 (5), 4-4 when Baez, ranked No 35, pulled out for a problem at the right leg.

The Frenchman will play the winner of the match between Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech and Spanish lucky loser Carlos Taberner next.
