Czech wildcard Petra Kvitova edged out American qualifier Bernarda Pera 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 to advance to the second round of the Ostrava Open at the Ostravar Aréna on Monday.
Kvitova, ranked No 20, will play second seed Paula Badosa next.
