Lucky loser Kovacevic advances to first ATP Tour semi-final in Korea
Aleksandar Kovacevic beat Mackenzie McDonald 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 on Friday and will face Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka in the next round
Lucky loser Aleksandar Kovacevic reached the semi-finals of the Korea Open by winning against Mackenzie McDonald 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 at the Seoul Olympic Park on Friday.
Kovacevic, ranked No 222, who had never even played an ATP Tour match before this week, will play Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka next.
Aleksandar Kovacevic beat Serb Miomir Kecmanovic, the No 7 seed (6-4, 6-4) and Chun-Hsin Tseng (7-6 (5), 6-7 (4), 6-2) ahead of his victory.
In the previous rounds, McDonald, ranked No 82, won against Spaniard Pedro Martinez (7-5, 6-4) and Japanese lucky loser Shintaro Mochizuki (6-3, 6-4).
