Tokyo Open: Samsonova makes final

Russian Liudmila Samsonova advanced to the final of the Tokyo Open by winning against Chinese Shuai Zhang 7-6 (4), 6-2 at the Ariake Coliseum and Ariake Tennis Forest Park on Saturday night.
Samsonova, ranked No 30, will face the winner of the match between Chinese Qinwen Zheng and Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the No 4 seed, next.
The Russian didn’t lose a set this week in Japan. She beat Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the No 8 seed (6-2, 6-4), Chinese Xinyu Wang (7-6 (5), 6-3) and Spaniard Garbine Muguruza, the No 3 seed (6-4, 6-2) ahead of her victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Zhang, ranked No 28, defeated Japanese wildcard Mai Hontama (6-0, 6-3), Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the second seed (4-6, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5)) and Croat Petra Martic (7-5, 6-2).
