Belgian Maryna Zanevska beat Egyptian Mayar Sherif, the No 5 seed, 6-1, 6-4 to advance to the semi-finals of the Tiriac Foundation Trophy on Friday.
Zanevska, ranked No 100, will face Reka Luca Jani next.
Ahead of her victory, the Belgian won against Italian Lucia Bronzetti, the No 4 seed (6-1, 6-0) and Russian Erika Andreeva (6-4, 6-3).
Sherif, ranked No 74, defeated Romanian wildcard Miriam Bulgaru (6-4, 6-2) and Austrian Julia Grabher (6-3, 6-3) in the previous rounds.
