Slovenia Open: Bogdan makes semi-finals

Ana Bogdan edged out Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-1, 1-6, 7-5 on Friday. She’ll play Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the No 3 seed, in the next round

Romanian Ana Bogdan advanced to the semi-finals of the Slovenia Open by edging out Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the second seed, 6-1, 1-6, 7-5 at Tennis Arena Portoroz on Friday.

Bogdan, ranked No 65, will play Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the No 3 seed, next.

The Romanian beat Australian Ajla Tomljanovic, the No 8 seed (7-5, 4-6, 6-1) and Slovenian Tamara Zidansek (6-1, 6-7 (5), 6-1) ahead of her victory.

Earlier in the tournament, Haddad Maia, ranked No 18, won against Dane Clara Tauson (7-6 (3), 6-3) and Spaniard Cristina Bucsa (6-1, 6-4).
