Italian qualifier Nuria Brancaccio moved into the semi-finals of the Open delle Puglie by winning against German Tatjana Maria, the No 3 seed, 7-5, 6-1 on Friday afternoon.
Brancaccio, ranked No 433, will face Italian wildcard Matilde Paoletti next.
Ahead of her victory, the 22-year-old Italian edged out Swiss Ylena In-Albon (2-6, 6-1, 6-4) and defeated Brazilian Laura Pigossi, the No 6 seed (7-5, 6-3).
Maria, ranked No 85, beat Italian Lisa Pigato (6-3, 6-4) and edged out lucky loser Andrea Gamiz (4-6, 6-3, 6-4) in the previous rounds.
