Italian qualifier Nuria Brancaccio won against Brazilian Laura Pigossi, the No 6 seed, 7-5, 6-3 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Open delle Puglie on Wednesday evening.
Brancaccio, ranked No 433, will play German Tatjana Maria, the No 3 seed, next.
The 22-year-old Italian edged out Swiss Ylena In-Albon (2-6, 6-1, 6-4) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round, Pigossi, ranked No 100, defeated Italian wildcard Vittoria Paganetti (6-2, 6-4).
