Swede Rebecca Peterson, the No 5 seed, advanced to the second round of the Vancouver Open by defeating Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova 6-2, 6-2 at Hollyburn Country Club on Monday night.
Peterson, ranked No 88, will face the winner of the match between Greek Despina Papamichail and American qualifier Catherine Harrison next.
