Thoreau Open: Volynets through to quarter-finals

American Katie Volynets edged out Frenchwoman Harmony Tan 4-6, 6-0, 7-6 (4) to advance to the last 8 of the Thoreau Open at Thoreau Tennis club in Concord on Thursday evening.
Volynets, ranked No 119, will play American Bernarda Pera, the second seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, the 20-year-old American edged out Belgian Greet Minnen, the No 7 seed (6-4, 5-7, 6-4).
Tan, ranked No 112, defeated Ukrainian qualifier Kateryna Volodko (6-3, 7-5) in the previous round of the Concord Open.
