Chinese lucky loser Xiyu Wang beat Croat Donna Vekic 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 to move into the quarter-finals of the Citi Open on Thursday evening.
Wang came from a set and 4-2 down to score the three-set win in two hours and 34 minutes.
Xiyu Wang, ranked No 95, will play the winner of the match between Czech Tereza Martincova and Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the No 4 seed, next.
In the previous round, the 21-year-old Chinese won against German Tatjana Maria (6-2, 7-5).
