Palermo Open: Paolini through to semi-finals

Jasmine Paolini won against Nuria Parrizas Diaz 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-2 on Friday evening and will play the winner of the match between Italian Lucia Bronzetti and Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 5 seed, in the next round

Italian Jasmine Paolini won against Spaniard Nuria Parrizas Diaz, the No 8 seed, 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-2 to advance to the last four of the Palermo Open at A.S.D. Country Time Club in Palerme on Friday evening.

Paolini, ranked No 61, will face the winner of the match between Italian Lucia Bronzetti and Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 5 seed, next.

The Italian beat Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (6-3, 6-1) and Chinese Shuai Zhang, the No 3 seed (W/O) earlier in the tournament.

In the previous rounds, Parrizas Diaz, ranked No 54, edged out American qualifier Asia Muhammad (4-6, 7-5, 7-5) and defeated Austrian lucky loser Julia Grabher (6-2, 6-4).
