Palermo Open: Bronzetti books spot in quarter-finals

Lucia Bronzetti won against Elina Avanesyan 6-1, 6-3 on Thursday evening and will play Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 5 seed, in the next round

Italian Lucia Bronzetti reached the quarter-finals of the Palermo Open by beating Russian qualifier Elina Avanesyan 6-1, 6-3 at A.S.D. Country Time Club in Palerme on Thursday evening.

Bronzetti, ranked No 78, will play Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 5 seed, next.

The Italian won against Chinese Xiyu Wang (6-3, 6-3) in the previous round.

In the first round, Avanesyan, ranked No 129, defeated Brazilian lucky loser Carolina M. Alves (6-2, 5-7, 6-1).
