Swiss Open: Jarry moves into quarter-finals

Nicolas Jarry defeated Yannick Hanfmann 7-6 (5), 7-6 (2) on Thursday evening and will face the winner of the match between Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas, the No 4 seed, and Swiss wildcard Dominic Stricker in the next round

Chilean qualifier Nicolas Jarry advanced to the last eight of the Swiss Open by beating German qualifier Yannick Hanfmann 7-6 (5), 7-6 (2) at the Roy Emerson Arena in Gstaad on Thursday evening.

Jarry, ranked No 118, will face the winner of the match between Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas, the No 4 seed, and Swiss wildcard Dominic Stricker next.

Ahead of his victory, the Chilean edged out Brazilian Thiago Monteiro (6-7 (9), 7-6 (4), 7-6 (6)).

Hanfmann, ranked No 152, won against Chilean Cristian Garin, the No 6 seed (6-3, 6-4) in the previous round of the Gstaad.
