Rune’s losing streak continues in Hamburg, Griekspoor books spot in second round
Tallon Griekspoor beat Holger Vitus Nodskov Rune 7-6 (8), 7-5 on Tuesday and will play the winner of the match between Serb Laslo Djere and Croat Borna Coric in the next round
Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor reached the second round of the Hamburg Open by winning against Dane Holger Rune, the No 8 seed, 7-6 (8), 7-5 at Am Rothenbaum on Tuesday.
Rune has not won a match since his run to the quarter-finals of Roland-Garros, where he lost to Casper Ruud on June 1, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-3.
Since then he has lost in his opening matches in Halle, Eastbourne (where he was seeded eighth), Wimbledon (where he was the 24th seed), and Bastad (where he was seeded seventh) – and now Hamburg. He has also only won one set in those five matches since Paris, when he took the opener against Britain’s Ryan Peniston in the first round of Eastbourne.
Griekspoor, ranked No 47, will face the winner of the match between Serb Laslo Djere and Croat Borna Coric next.
