Hamburg Open: Frech advances to second round

Magdalena Frech benefited from the abandonment of Anna Kalinskaya (6-1) on Monday and will play the winner of the match between Czech Barbora Krejcikova, the No 3 seed, and Dutch lucky loser Suzan Lamens in the next round

Pole Magdalena Frech advanced to the second round of the Hamburg Open when Russian Anna Kalinskaya retired at Am Rothenbaum in Hambourg on Monday.

Frech, ranked No 84, led 6-1 when Kalinskaya, ranked No 70, pulled out at Am Rothenbaum in Hambourg on Monday.

The Pole will play the winner of the match between Czech Barbora Krejcikova, the No 3 seed, and Dutch lucky loser Suzan Lamens next.
