Lausanne Open: Martic into last 4

Petra Martic won against Belinda Bencic 6-3, 7-6 (2) on Friday evening and will face Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 6 seed, in the next round

Croat Petra Martic advanced to the last four of the Lausanne Open by winning against Swiss Belinda Bencic, the second seed, 6-3, 7-6 (2) at Tennis Club du Stade-Lausanne on Friday evening.

Martic, ranked No 85, will face Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 6 seed, next.

In the previous rounds of the Lausanne, the Croat beat Spaniard Nuria Parrizas Diaz, the No 5 seed (6-2, 6-2) and Russian qualifier Erika Andreeva (6-4, 6-2).

Bencic, ranked No 13, won against Frenchwoman Diane Parry (3-6, 6-3, 6-1) and wildcard Susan Bandecchi (6-3, 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
