Australian wildcard Max Purcell reached the second round of the Hall of Fame Open by edging out Frenchman Adrian Mannarino 6-3, 1-6, 7-5 at the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum in Newport on Tuesday evening.
Purcell, ranked No 202, will face the winner of the match between American Sam Querrey and No 6 seed Andy Murray next.
