Grand Est Open: Bucsa moves into semi-finals
Cristina Bucsa benefited from the forfeit of Jessika Ponchet on Friday and will play Sara Errani in the next round
Spaniard Cristina Bucsa reached the semi-finals of the Grand Est Open after Frenchwoman Jessika Ponchet withdrew before the match on Friday afternoon at Tennis Club de Contrexéville.
Bucsa, ranked No 131, will face Sara Errani next.
The Spaniard beat Argentinian Maria Lourdes Carle (6-2, 6-3) and Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus, the No 5 seed (7-5, 6-2) in the previous rounds.
Earlier in the tournament, Ponchet, ranked No 222, won against Spaniard Andrea Lazaro Garcia (6-1, 4-6, 6-3) and Russian qualifier Erika Andreeva (6-7 (6), 6-2, 6-3).
