Shapovalov slumps, Nakashima moves into Wimbledon third round

American Brandon Nakashima edged out Canadian Denis Shapovalov, the No 13 seed, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (6) to advance to the third round of Wimbledon at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Thursday afternoon.

Nakashima, ranked No 56, will face Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan Riveros next.

The 20-year-old American beat German qualifier Nicola Kuhn (6-3, 6-7 (1), 6-3, 6-2) ahead of his victory.

In the previous round, Shapovalov, ranked No 16, won against Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech (6-1, 6-7 (6), 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-1).
