Wimbledon: Tiafoe advances to third round
Frances Tiafoe defeated Maximilian Marterer 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (3) on Wednesday. He’ll play Kazakh Alexander Bublik in the next round
American Frances Tiafoe, the No 23 seed, won against German qualifier Maximilian Marterer 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (3) to advance to the third round of Wimbledon at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Wednesday.
Tiafoe, ranked No 28, will play Kazakh Alexander Bublik next.
In the previous round, the American beat Italian qualifier Andrea Vavassori (6-4, 6-4, 6-4).
Marterer, ranked No 172, edged out Slovenian Aljaz Bedene (4-6, 7-5, 6-4, 7-5) in the previous round.
