Berlin Open: Jabeur to meet Sasnovich in quarters
Ons Jabeur saved a set point to beat Alycia Parks in straight sets to reach the quarter-finals of the WTA 500 event in Berlin where she is the top seed
Top seed Ons Jabeur, of Tunisia, advanced to the quarter-finals of the Berlin Open after a straight sets win over American qualifier Alycia Parks at Rot-Weiss Tennis Club on Thursday.
Jabeur, who will partner Serena Williams in doubles at Eastbourne next week in what will be the legendary American’s first tournament in 12 months, won 6-2, 7-6 in one hour and 31 minutes.
The Tunisian, who is playing her first event since her shock first round exit at the French Open, saved a set point in the second set tiebreak coming through against Parks.
Ranked a career-high No 4 in the world, Jabeur will play Belarus’ Aliaksandra Sasnovich for a spot in the semi-finals. Sasnovich defeated former top 10 player Andrea Petkovic 6-4, 6-4 in another second round encounter on Thursday.
