Top seed Auger-Aliassime and Monte-Carlo finalist Davidovich Fokina headline Estoril Open

World No 10 Felix Auger-Aliassime is the top seed at this week’s ATP Estoril Open, with the Canadian hoping to recover some of his lost mojo.

After a blistering start to 2022 which included winning the ATP Cup, reaching the Australian Open quarters, winning his first singles title in Rotterdam and reaching the finals in Marseille, the 21-year-old won only one match in his next four events.

He posted up a decent quarter-final finish in Barcelona last week and will hope to continue from there as he faces South African Lloyd Harris or lucky loser Carlos Taberner in the second round of the ATP 250 event.

Auger-Aliassime is projected to meet the No 8 seed Sebastian Korda in the quarter-finals. However, the American has former US Open champion Dominic Thiem in his section.

Thiem is 0-2 in his comeback after a nine-month injury layoff and will hope to end that streak when he meets Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi in the first round.

While Carlos Alcaraz has been stealing all the headlines in recent weeks, there is another Sapniard who is also rising quickly up the ranks. 22-year-old Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is coming off the biggest week of his life after reaching the finals in Monte-Carlo.

Fokina has fifth seed Frances Tiafoe in in his projected path.

Schwartzman and Cilic top shots in bottom section of Estoril Open draw

Second seed Diego Schwartzman, of Argetina, and former US Open champion Marin Cilic, the No 3 seed, headline the bottom section of the draw.

Schwartzman has sixth sed Albert Ramos-Vinolas as his projected quarter-final date. Meanwhile, Cilic will have to get past seventh seed Tommy Paul, who plays Frenchman Richard Gasquet in the first round.
