WTA Rankings: Dominant Swiatek stays on top, with very few changes in the top-100

It was a quiet week tournament-wise on the WTA Tour, with the Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers taking centre stage across the globe. That means that there was very little movement inside the top-100.

But there were still some changes inside the top-10 and a few more inside the top-100. Read on for the WTA rankings report for April 18, 2022.

Three for Iga

Poland’s Iga Swiatek was ruthless at BJK Cup on home soil, as she won 24 of 25 games and guided Poland to the Finals in November. This week the 20-year-old will head to Stuttgart, where she is the top seed, riding a 19-match winning streak.

Swiatek dropped a total of 45 points across her two rubbers this weekend in Poland, and handed out two bagel sets, bringing her total to eight in 2022. Swiatek has won her last 24 sets, dating back to dropping the first set against Angelique Kerber in the round of 16 at Indian Wells.

She improves to 28-3 on the season overall – a worthy No 1.

Swiatek, who became the 28th No 1 in WTA history on April 4, begins her third week atop the ATP rankings on Monday. The top-5 remains unchanged for the week:

Jabeur and Muguruza flip-flop

The only move inside the top-20 is a small one. Ons Jabeur drops rankings points from her run to the Charleston (2) final last year, which means that Garbine Muguruza moves up to No 9.

Astra Sharma, who won the Charleston (2) title last April, drops 57 spots, all the way down to 147. The Australian is the biggest mover in the WTA’s top-200 this week.

Volynets, Wang Xiyu rise after reaching Palm Harbor Final

It was a big week for American Katie Volynets and China’s Xiyu Wang. Volynets defeated Wang 6-4, 6-3 in the final of the 100K at Palm Harbor, Florida. Volynets claims her second ITF 100K title and rises 35 spots to a new career-high ranking of 119.

Wang jumps 23 spots to 127 for her efforts.
