Swiatek kept her word and ensured Poland qualified for the quarter-finals after Magada Linette provided the desired start by earning a hard-fought 7-6 (8), 2-6, 6-4 against Spain’s Sara Sorribes Tormo. She overcame Paula Badosa 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-1 in the second singles match to give Poland an unassailable 2-0 lead over the host nation.

“There have been a lot of speculations and insinuation. Definitely too much, considering that the message that was issued very precisely defines our decision. It is enough to read it with understanding, not with the intention of looking for sensation. Our end of cooperation was done with respect for both parties, and no fake news will change that,” Wiktorowski added.

“I think that in general we had a very good relationship in the team.
